Loft Conversion

Today we started a Loft conversion in Harlow Essex, the scaffold was erected yesterday ready for us to start. we started by cutting a hole in the side of the roof to gain access to the loft rather than going through the house, this hole will later have a window installed. The house is a new build which has been built with the loft area ready to be converted with the timbers and floor joist already in place. First fix electrics was also installed. This loft conversion in not being built with a dormer just Velux windows.

Pitching of roof

On the 20th June we started the pitching of the roof of an extension we are doing in Thurrock Park, the brick work we built the previous week. We used 4 x 2 timbers for the ceiling joists, 4 x 2 timbers for the rafters. Once the timbers were erected the fascia and soffits were installed using white PVCU, the roof was then felted and batton using a breathable felt and 25 x 38 batton. The roof was then tiled using Marley Mendip tiles. The lead and stepped lead was installed into the brick work. The hipped tiles were cemented into place then finally the gutter and downpipes were fixed to the fascia.

The inside of the extension the floor was insullated and screeded, a stud wall was built to house the en suite and a hole knocked  through to the existing building for a door way. Services were installed i.e plumbing and electrics, the walls were then plaster boarded and plastered. The en suite was tiled and laminate floor laid in the rest of the building. Skirting, architraves and doors were fitted. Today we installed the bathroom suite which completed the build.
